10 Reasons Why You Need A Website For Your Small Business

1. A website makes your business look professional

84% of today’s consumers think a website makes your business more credible than companies who only have social media profiles.

You can use your website to show off things like professional qualifications, certificates or even business awards you’ve won.

Don’t forget that having a website (or more specifically a domain i.e. website address) means you can use professional email addresses such as your firstname.lastname@yourbusinessname.co.uk – rather than a Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo address which are viewed with suspicion by many consumers.

2. Your website can attract new customers through Google and Bing

There are 46 million people in the UK that are searching for products and services EVERY DAY.

Why would you not want to be online where potential customers/clients are looking for suppliers of products and services?

Whilst you may have ‘all the business you can handle now’ what is the likelihood that that will continue indefinitely? All businesses have dips. If you have a website you can attract new customers or clients as they search online for YOUR products or services and smooth out those troughs and peaks. Coupled with search optimisation, your business can get unbelievable amounts of exposure which often leads to new customers or clients.

3. A website allows you to showcase your products and services

A website gives you plenty of space to talk in great depth about your product and services. If you combine this information with quality photography of your products and services you can quickly get over to prospective customers and clients what you do and the benefits you offer them – often more easily than relying on limited spaces on the biog parts of social media accounts.

4. A website can display customer testimonials and reviews which means more credibility and a higher probability that people will buy from you.

You can even import any reviews you have on Google and Facebook.

5. A website is another way for potential customers and clients to easily contact you

Simples!

6. You can integrate your website with Google Maps so potential new customers or clients can find you more easily

A website lets you embed maps directly into your content.

An embedded map makes it easy for people who don’t spend a lot of time in your area to find your business.

7. Your website establishes your place in your industry

As of 2021, 83% of small businesses have websites in the UK, according to Statista and 76% of customers in the UK research things online before they buy them. In other words, if your competitors are online and you’re not, those competitors may attract those potential customers – ahead of a business without a website.

8. A website is no longer costly

Unlike virtually most web developers, One Man Band Websites charges on a pay monthly basis rather than the traditional lump sum model practised by most web developers. A website up to 10 pages costs £60 per month and includes FREE hosting, FREE domain registration, FREE business emails, FREE writing of the text, FREE copyright-free images (if required), and once live, up to 1 hour’s changes every month at no extra charge. In addition, we update the software used in the development of your website to ensure it runs efficiently and we update the security of your website to minimise the ongoing threats from hackers.

9. Be open 24/7

Having a website allows customers to visit your business 24/7/365 rather than being restricted to the usual 9 to 5 Monday to Friday working hours. Simples.

10. A website ensures your success over the long term

As of January 2021, almost 4.66 billion people (59.5% of the global population) used the Internet. In many countries, that number is much higher. In the US, for example, over 90% of people are online.

Without a website, your business is invisible to these people. As we progress further into the digital era, your business will become invisible to everyone unless you invest in a website.

So to stay competitive in this increasingly digital world and GET your business online!

Final thought:

So, do I need a website for my business?

What’s the final verdict?

Hopefully, by now, having read the above, it is obvious to you that the question isn’t “do I need a website for my business”, but “can I afford NOT to have one”. The simple facts are that 83% of businesses in the UK are online – for a reason: their customers are online (46 million people are online in the UK) and searching for products and services every day!

Do you NOT want potential new customers?

Hope that helps. If we can help, please do get in touch at info@onemanbandwebsites.co.uk or 01204 275 168 or WhatsApp 07792 819 059.

1. Decide what social media platforms to use for your business

If you sell to other businesses, you will need to have a Company Profile on LinkedIn.

If you sell to the public (consumers) you will almost certainly want to be on Facebook.

Whether you are business-to-business (B2B) or business-to-consumer (B2C) you will also need to have a Google+ Page and a corporate Twitter account.

If your business lends itself to video having a corporate YouTube account could also be very valuable.

2. Decide on what you want to achieve from social media.

Set objectives that will help the business. Otherwise, you can end up doing social media for no discernable benefit.

An example is to ‘increase the number of visitors to your website by 30% in the next 6 months’ or ‘drive sales via social media by £x p.a. by displaying y number of products p.m.

3. Decide on how you want your business to be seen on social media i.e. what’s your social media brand – formal, corporate, fun, provocative, educational or other?

Ensure that your posts reflect your desired social media brand.

4. Decide on who will take a lead and ‘do your social media’.

Typically, that can be someone in-house (if they have the skills) or someone from outside such as a freelancer or social media consultant (which avoids the risks and costs of employing someone specifically to do this work).

5. Commit to posting regularly.

Results won’t necessarily come instantly and social media requires that ‘you give before you get’.

Start with 2 to 3 posts per week and work up to 1 per day

6. Add links in your posts to certain pages of your website in order to drive traffic to your website to increase the likelihood of enquiries and/or sales.

7. Ask the people that follow you on social media questions in order to try to start a conversation with them, rather than just ‘broadcast’ or ‘sell’ to them in every post.

People want interesting and valuable content rather than just being sold to.

8. Understand social media etiquette:

be respectful to all, be polite, be solution-focused, be nice, act in a helpful manner, don’t slag off your competition and try to ‘talk’ to your followers rather than just ‘sell’ to them.

9. Brainstorm ideas for content with as many people in your business as possible.

Encourage them to make ideas on an ongoing basis. They will probably come up with the best ideas!

10. Join relevant groups and answer questions in order to showcase your expertise. This will eventually generate enquiries and sales leads.

Why Is Social Media Important To Your Business?

Social media provides unlimited opportunities for businesses, of all sizes, to promote their products and services to new and existing customers.

Basically, thousands of people in your local area are using four main social media platforms, which means that these people could become customers of yours – if you know how to attract and convert them!

However, many businesses, particularly small and medium-sized businesses, have not yet grasped these opportunities due to a lack of knowledge or skills to harness these sites as new ways to market themselves.

But social media is happening AND it’s a phenomenon.

It is now becoming so universal that you and your business may be affected – even if you chose not to be involved!

You are likely to be referred to on social media – positively or not – even if you are not on social media.

The new adage is: ‘you’re on social media whether you like it or not’.

If you ARE on social media, you can at least try to control how the world sees you or your business. If you are not on social media and your customers or other parties criticise your business, you can’t easily defend yourself.

Here are some basic facts about these four social networking platforms: Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook:

Google+

More than 12.6million registered users in the UK

1.15 billion users worldwide!

Now the #2 social media platform in the world after Facebook

70% of brands have a presence on Google+

Almost 800,000 people sign up to Google+ every month!

Higher Google+1s = higher search engine rankings

Facebook

More than 24 million active DAILY users in the UK

More than 1,350 million (i.e. 1.35 billion) active monthly users worldwide!

50% of users log on in any given day – for at least 21 minutes

Anyone can get up a Fan page and slag you off e.g. ‘McDonald’s sucks’ etc., Reputation management now the biggest worry for major companies

More than 42 million Pages on Facebook

Average user becomes a Fan of 4 Pages each month

Facebook Pages helps with SEO of your website

Twitter

More than 15 million users in the UK

20% of all tweets contained reference to a product or brand

50 million tweets sent a day worldwide

Can be used to promote news, events, new appointments, new website, success, and defend criticism or complaints!

More than 230 million users worldwide

LinkedIn

15 million users in the UK

347 million users worldwide

Free advertising of your services and expertise

Ability to identify prospects

Free to post jobs on site if you are hiring

Is becoming part of the ‘sifting’ or selection process of companies wanting new suppliers

Status Updates = free advertising

Q & As = show and ‘advertise’ your expertise

Summary

Social media is now used by millions of people (including many of your customers) both here in the UK and across the world.

People use it to connect with other people but also to find products and services that they may need.

Social media provides all businesses with a free, relatively easy way to promote their business to existing and potential new customers.

Those that are embracing social media and investing some time and effort into learning how to get the most from social media are really helping to grow their businesses.

For those businesses that haven’t yet considered social media (for whatever reason) or are not taking full advantage of the benefits of social media, they are definitely missing an opportunity to grow their business and are ‘leaving money on the table’.

We believe it is, therefore, becoming imperative that virtually all businesses participate, to some degree, in social media.

The post 10 Quick & Easy Ways To Grow Your Business Using Social Media first appeared on One Man Band Websites From £15 Per Week!.

Do you start from home or rent an office? What’s the best location? Near home or near to where you think your potential customers may be?

What office equipment do you need? Desk(s), computers, PCs, laptops and even tablets?

What software do you need specific to your business? Do you have the means to back up all your documents, emails, meetings and contacts online rather than risk storing them on a hard copy of Office? (How old is your existing PC or laptop, too)? Do you know that one of the major reasons businesses actually go OUT of business is as a result of a serious loss of data!

Have you got broadband in your office? Is it the fastest possible and appropriate for your anticipated business needs? Do you want to trawl through lots of websites to compare prices and try to identify the best supplier with the best customer support or would you prefer to use a specialist who can quickly identify the best provider?

A business phone number – rather than using your home number, if you are starting your business from home – which can either be a local number or a national (also known as a non-geographic specific) number. The latter shows that you operate nationally whereas the former indicates you are a ‘local’ business. Some businesses are better suited with having a national number and some are better suited with having a local number. Many potential customers are put off when a supplier does not have a business ‘landline’ and only uses a mobile. Having a ‘landline’ – even if it’s a ‘virtual number’ which diverts to a mobile is better than not having a landline number at all. We all know people that won’t contact businesses that only have a mobile and not a landline. Having a landline gives reassurance that yours is a ‘real business’, too!

If you are reading this blog and wondering how the heck you are going to get all this done, we at Active Business Communications may be able to help you.

We work with businesses of all sizes from one-man bands to those employing hundreds of people across the whole of the UK.

Our services are bespoke to each client and cover mobile phones, broadband, phones, and IT support.

Our customer service and technical support specialists are based here in the UK and offer free, friendly and helpful advice and support to clients of all sizes and industries.

We are really a one-stop shop for all those core needs that virtually all businesses have.

Our x specialists in all these areas have extensive experience of helping business start-up navigate the set-up stage and then support businesses post-launch in order that business owners can focus, without distraction, on growing their business.

The question I ask many people who are starting their own business is: do you want to focus as soon as possible on finding customers for your products and services in order to increase your chances of growing your business and it being successful OR do you want to get distracted by identifying and sourcing a myriad of suppliers to provide the IT and telecoms for your business? (It is estimated that 20% of all business startups fail in the first 12 months due to not focusing on marketing and sales).

My best advice to anyone starting out on business is to seek out specialists, not just in IT and telecoms, but marketing, sales and business development that can help you save time, money and frustration in those first 12 months of your business, in order to help you get those all-important first customers and clients as quickly as possible and increase the probability of your success (and avoid you being one of the 20% of businesses that fail in the first 12 months).
